Bouchercon 2014 Wrap-Up: Awards





Several sets of awards were presented during Bouchercon: Murder on the Beach this past weekend.  If you've somehow missed seeing the winners, here they are:


The Barry Awards, voted on by the readers of Deadly Pleasures Mystery Magazine, were presented during the opening ceremonies on November 13, 2014. 

Best Novel:   Ordinary Grace by William Kent Kruger 
Best First Novel:  Japantown by Barry Lancet 
Best Paperback Original:  I Hear the Sirens in the Street by Adrian McKinty
Best Thriller:  The Doll by Taylor Stevens


The Macavity Awards, voted on by members of Mystery Readers International, were also presented during the Bouchercon 2014 opening ceremonies.

Best Novel:  Ordinary Grace by William Kent Kruger
Best First Mystery:  A Killing At Cotton Hill by Terry Shames
Best Mystery Short Story:  "The Care and Feeding of Houseplants" by Art Taylor 
     (Ellery Queen Mystery Magazine, March/April 2013)
Best Non-fiction:  The Hour of Peril: The Secret Plot to Murder Lincoln Before the Civil War by Daniel Stashower
Sue Feder Historical Mystery Award:  Murder as a Fine Art by David Morrell 


The Shamus Awards, awarded by the Private Eye Writers of America, were presented at the Shamus Awards Banquet on November 14, 2014.

Best P.I. Novel:  The Good Cop by Brad Parks 
Best Paperback Original:  Heart of Ice by P.J. Parrish 
Best First Novel:  Bear is Broken by Lachlan Smith
Best Short Story:  "So Long, Chief" by Max Allan Collins and Mickey Spillane 
     (The Strand Magazine)
Best Indie Novel:  Don't Dare a Dame by M. Ruth Myers


The Anthony Awards, voted on by Bouchercon members, were presented at a ceremony on November 15th, 2014.

Best Novel:  Ordinary Grace by William Kent Kruger

Best Paperback Original:  As She Left It by Catriona McPherson
